Registration is live for the 2025 Izzo Legacy Run/Walk/Roll!

Join us in April 2025 for the 6th annual Izzo Legacy Run/Walk/Roll!

The Izzo family has partnered with Playmakers to host this premium experience on the campus of Michigan State University. The mission is to connect Alumni, the MSU and Mid-Michigan communities in a positive celebration of Coach Izzo's legacy. The events include a 5K Run/Walk, 5K Roll, 1/2 Mile Walk, Children's Races and a Virtual 5K; all events will focus on fitness, fun, family, Spartan spirit and charitable giving! Last year's event saw record-breaking participants and the Izzo Legacy Run/Walk/Roll is officially the largest 5K in mid-Michigan! Come celebrate the historic 6th anniversary with the Izzos and our communities.

Proceeds from the 2025 Izzo Legacy Run/Walk/Roll will continue to support an endowment for the Izzo Legacy Family Fund that will ensure charitable giving for years to come. In addition, participants can donate to select local charities through the registration process or on the donate page

Tom and I have certainly been blessed to be a part of this community and we feel a genuine obligation to give back to the MSU and Mid-Michigan communities that have become such a large part of our lives. One of the reasons we’ve never left Michigan State is the connection to our community.

The Izzo Legacy Establishes Endowment to further its Commitment to Community

In the heart of East Lansing, the Izzo family’s commitment to service and community is woven deeply into the fabric of daily life. At the helm are Tom and Lupe Izzo, whose unwavering dedication to their hometown and
its residents has left an indelible mark on the landscape of philanthropy.

In 2019, Lupe saw an opportunity to channel her generosity into positive action. Teaming up with Playmakers, she spearheaded the inaugural Izzo Legacy 5K Run/Walk/Roll event, aiming to unite the community and support local charities that have long been pillars of strength in the Lansing area. Their vision has become an annual tradition, drawing participants from all walks of life. Fast forward to 2024, the event boasts over 5,000 participants, making it the largest 5K event in mid-Michigan.

Yet, for the Izzo family, philanthropy is not merely an event but a way of life. In 2019, they solidified their commitment to community welfare by establishing the Izzo Legacy Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Izzo Legacy was envisioned as a conduit to empower individuals to help organizations effect meaningful change in the community. Their dedication to the cause, coupled with outstanding support from sponsors,
donors, and volunteers, has seen the initiative flourish, resulting in nearly $700,000 raised for charity partners
since its inception.

For Lupe, the creation of the Izzo Legacy represents the culmination of a lifelong journey rooted in the values of hard work, family, and community. “Tom and I have always believed in the importance of giving back to the community that has given us so much,” she remarked. “The Izzo Legacy provides us with an opportunity to formalize our commitment to making a difference and to inspire others to join us in this noble pursuit.”

The Izzo family’s philanthropic journey doesn’t end with charitable events or fundraising drives. Recognizing
the transient nature of individual contributions, they set their sights on creating a lasting impact through the
establishment of The Izzo Legacy Endowment Fund here at the Community Foundation.

Raquel Izzo McDonald, Executive Director of the Izzo Legacy, said, “The Izzo Legacy Endowment Fund will ensure that my parents’ commitment to charitable giving will last forever. We are proud to establish the Izzo Legacy Endowment Fund at the Capital Region Community Foundation. Partnering with the Community Foundation was an easy choice for us because of its strong connection to the communities and charities
we support.”

As the Izzo family continues to lead by example, their philanthropy serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come. In the words of Tom Izzo, “We need to do a better job of taking care of one another, and we all have a platform to help others.” With the Izzo Legacy leading the way, the Izzo family exemplifies the transformative power of compassion, unity, and unwavering dedication to making the world
a better place for all.
